THREE ISLES COTTAGES
Mid-Coast Maine
Popham Beach Getaway
MAKE MEMORIES AT THREE ISLES COTTAGES
Experience the magic of Mid-Coast Maine at Three Isles Cottages. Located in historic Phippsburg, our cozy housekeeping cottages are a short stroll through the dunes to unspoiled Popham Beach. Our name is a tribute to the three most prominent islands – Wood, Seguin, Fox – striking features of the ocean view.
Unplug, decompress, relax at the peninsula’s end, where cell phone coverage is spotty and the nearest WiFi is courtesy of Popham Beach Library (staffed by welcoming volunteers, donations greatly appreciated), a mile down the paved road or a bit longer on foot via Popham Beach.
Drift off to sleep in one of Three Isles Cottages to the sound of crashing waves or the distant moan of a foghorn. The city lights of Portland are only an hour away, but on clear nights you will be treated to a stunning display of the Milky Way. The lighthouse beacons on Seguin and Pond Islands grace the horizon. A chorus of peepers provide musical accompaniment from the fresh waters of Silver Lake opposite Three Isles Cottages on Popham Beach. Painted turtles venture upslope from the pond and make their way between the cottages to scoop nests in the dunes. If you are fortunate enough to see one, please observe from a respectful distance and do not disturb.
Simple Popham Beach Pleasures
POPHAM BEACH INVITES EXPLORATION
We provide a no-frills beach experience where sun, surf, and sand are the main attractions. Our clean, cozy cottages provide a home base for exploring all that Mid-Coast Maine has to offer the adventurer, the artist, the naturalist, or the solitude seeker. Once you have experienced a week at Three Isles, we hope that you return again, year after year. Many of our guests have generations’ worth of Popham Beach memories.
The centerpiece is the broad arc of beach, an uncrowded expanse of powdery sand that invites exploration. Low tides expose ridges of sand that connect both Wood and Fox Islands to the main beach, anchoring points 1 mile apart. To the geologist, these unique landforms are known as tombolos, and are well worth a closer look. The ever-shifting sands of Popham Beach State Park, where the Morse River meets the ocean, provide an endless display of changing forms and textures for beachcombers and photographers. Watch the skies for a solitary bald eagle or osprey or scan the dunes in protected areas for the skittering of piping plovers. Terns nest in the Pond Island National Wildlife refuge at the mouth of the Kennebec River, and are often seen skimming along the breakers.
